Audio not working very well

HP Envy x360 Convertible
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The audio coming out of my laptop is unbearable. It produces a horrible crackling version of the sound I'm trying to listen to. I have tried to re-install audio drivers and run troubleshooters, etc. with no improvement. I worry that this is a hardware issue and not a software issue as it occurs no matter what program is outputting audio. Does anyone have any solutions/fixed this problem before?
