Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

So I recently installed software that updated my out of date drivers due to high CPU usage, which has been rectified after deactivating windows defender etc. However, I forgot to untick it the software from updating my audio drivers due to earlier issues with my audio in which I will explain below.

Previously, after a windows update, when I plugged my headphones in, the audio played through both the headphones and laptop speakers at the same time. Therefore, I deleted my audio drivers and reinstalled Realtek's high definition audio software. Problem solved, it was fixed.

However, after updating the drivers again accidentally, the issue has recurred. I didn't have the option to roll back the driver, therefore, I just deleted it and performed the same method as before but this time with no success.

The plugged headphone do not show up on playback and when plugged in my issues continue, audio playing through headphones and laptop speakers.

Please don't recommend to use different headphones, the same issue occurs with different ones too. I have performed diagnostic checks etc, I am normally quite good with computers. This has got me, two days of nearly pulling my hair out! haha.

So I have come here to get some advice of you smart people, please help me! Thanks

Zac

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

I see that your experiencing issue with the audio playback, I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue you've done an excellent job on diagnosing the issue from your end..

As you've performed relevant troubleshooting steps and the issue persists, this sounds like software driver related issue.

Let's try:

Check the 'Disable front panel jack detection' option:

  1. Double-click on the Realtek HD Audio manager system tray icon

  2. Click on the small folder icon

  3. Check that the 'Disable front panel jack detection' tick box is unticked.

  4. Now insert the jack plug of either a microphone or headphones into the corresponding front panel socket of your computer.

  5. If you now see the message 'Information: A jack has been plugged in', then you do not need to change this setting as your system has an HDA compatible front panel.

  6. If you do not see this message, then click on the small folder icon again and tick the 'Disable front panel jack detection' checkbox.

If any of the above options are unavailable, install the latest drivers for your audio adapter and then try again: Click here for the drivers

Also, you can  perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant:

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
