Hi All,

I put in the ear/head phones in the aux port and I have normal audio. After the audio stops (stop listening to music for example) but keeping the wire in the port for a while. When I play any audio again I get an echo, consistently and every time. This only happens when keeping the aux port occupied but not playing audio for a few minutes.

It is solved by removing and putting back the wire while audio is playing. Doesn't work if there is no audio playing, it will keep being echo-y.

This is very annoying since I have to constantly put and remove the audio jack every time I take a break from listening to anything (including videos, YouTube, music etc...)

I tried reinstalling the audio drivers but it didn't help.

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

  • Step 1: Check the microphone hardware. Make sure the microphone has power, is turned up, and functioning. ...
  • Step 2: Update the audio driver. ...
  • Step 3: Run the Audio Check in HP Support Assistant. ...
  • Step 4: Use the Troubleshooting tool. ...
  • Step 5: Configure the sound settings in Windows.

Click here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03421813 to complete the troubleshooting steps.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

I went through all the steps you wrote but there were no issues found, however this issue disappears when I turn off "audio enhancements" in Windows settings. This is related to the B&O audio. Enhancements are what make B&O audio work, so when I disable it I lose it, but the issue disappears.

To be clear the echo sound is not from the microphone at all, it is an echo or "far away and unclear" sound of whatever I am playing, the audio I'm playing sounds echo-y.

I think it has something to do with B&O audio or maybe the driver (which I have reinstalled at least 2 times), did you face any similar issues with other people? I can't seem to find it anywhere on this support forum.

Let us run a hardware test

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  3. Perform Component Test > Audio.
  4. You may also run a quick system test too. Share the result on your next post.

Keep us posted.

Hi,

I performed and passed all the audio tests on speakers and headphones through component and system testing. I could hear the sound with no problem. As  I said before the issue has to do with audio enhancements in Windows (the thing that enables B&O audio). Unfortunately HP has made it in a way that if I disable B&O the sound from the speakers is terrible so that's not an option.

I understand your concerns.

In that case, I would suggets you perform the system reset.

Windows 10 has a reset feature that repairs your computer by reinstalling the operating system. This feature is recommended for recovery because it reinstalls Windows 10 while either preserving your personal data and customizations or removing all your personal data.

You have a choice of two methods to reset your computer.

  • If Windows 10 loads correctly, see the section titled Perform a Windows 10 system reset in Windows in this document.

  • If Windows 10 does not start correctly, see the section titled Perform a Windows 10 system reset through Windows Recovery Environment in this document.

Have a nice day!!
