Hi @Y0urL0v3rGirl,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I understand that you are having issues with the microphone.

Static noise from the microphone on your HP Envy can be caused by various factors, including incorrect settings, outdated drivers, or interference. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and fix the static noise:

1. Check Microphone Connection:

  • Ensure that the microphone is securely connected if it’s an external microphone. If it's built-in, proceed with the steps below.

2. Adjust Microphone Settings:

  • Right-click on the sound icon in the taskbar and select "Sounds."
  • Go to the "Recording" tab, select your microphone, and click on "Properties."
  • In the "Levels" tab, reduce the microphone level and microphone boost to a lower setting. High levels can cause static noise.
  • In the "Advanced" tab, try changing the Default Format to a different setting, such as 16 bit, 44100 Hz (CD Quality).

3. Disable Audio Enhancements:

  • In the microphone properties, go to the "Enhancements" tab.
  • Check the box for "Disable all sound effects" or "Disable all enhancements."
  • Click Apply and OK.

4. Update Audio Drivers:

  • Open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start button and selecting "Device Manager."
  • Expand the "Sound, video and game controllers" section.
  • Right-click your audio device and select "Update driver."
  • Choose "Search automatically for drivers" to update your audio driver.
  • If no updates are found, visit the HP support website and download the latest audio drivers for your HP Envy model.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @Y0urL0v3rGirl,

Please find the remaining steps below.

5. Reinstall Audio Drivers:

  • In Device Manager, right-click your audio device and select "Uninstall device."
  • Restart your computer, and Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.

6. Check for Windows Updates:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and ensure your system is up to date.

7. Run the Troubleshooter:

  • Go to Settings > System > Sound.
  • Scroll down to "Input" and click on "Troubleshoot" next to your microphone.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to identify and fix any microphone-related issues.

8. Check for Interference:

  • If you’re using an external microphone, ensure it is away from any electronic devices that might cause interference.
  • If using Bluetooth headphones, ensure they are fully charged and not experiencing connectivity issues.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, it may be hardware-related, in which case you might need to consider having your laptop serviced by HP phone support.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
