I'm wondering how the HP Audio Control panel is supposed to work. It has a slider switch for 'multistreaming' which is supposed to enable me to, as it states, listen to different audio sources on different speaker sets. I connected the pc to a tv via HDMI to play a DVD movie - I was hoping I'd be able to listen to audio on the pc speakers while the DVD audio played through the tv, but it doesn't work like that. If I play a different audio source it plays through the tv speakers. As I stated, it's the HP Audio Control panel that I have on my computer, version # 6.0.1.8603. Any feedback would be much appreciated.
Edit: Also wanted to add that the same holds true when I plug earphones into the pc - they show up in the Audio Control panel with their own volume slider but I see absolutely no provision for delineating different audio sources between output channels.

Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I reviewed your post and I understand that you are facing issues with the audio control on your computer.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
I recommend you follow the below steps and check if it helps.
Step 1 Run Audio troubleshooter -
1) In Windows, type "Find and fix audio" into Search, or right-click the speaker icon on the taskbar and select Troubleshoot sound problems.
2) Select Find and fix audio playback problems or Find and fix audio recording problems from the Search results.
Step 2 Re-install the Audio drivers -
1) In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
2) Double-click Sound, video and game controllers.
3) Right click on the Audio drivers and click on uninstall.
4) Restart the computer.
5) Download and install the audio driver from this link.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
If you wish to show appreciation for my efforts, mark my post as Accept as Solution. Your feedback counts!
Cheers!

Thank you for your reply. When I tried the actions you suggested, in Device Manager under Sound, Video and Game Controllers I see three drivers.
1. Galaxy S9 Hands-Free HF Audio (I assume this has nothing to do with this and is simply for when my phone is connected to my computer)
2. Intel Display Audio
3. Realtek Audio
Do I just uninstall the Realtek driver, or the Intel one as well? Thanks again.

Yes, just uninstall the Realtek driver and download and install it from the suggested link.
Please post your results, as I will be looking forward to hearing from you.
Good day!

Well, I tried that and it didn't work. I uninstalled the current driver, downloaded the other one (it was the most recently-dated one in the list) and when I tried to install it I got an error message saying basically that that driver wouldn't work with my machine. I can't say exactly what the error message was, I didn't note it down or screenshot it - I'm lazy and dumb when it comes to troubleshooting. Then, I tried to open HP Audio Control after that and it errored out as well, so I uninstalled that. I've still got audio on my pc so I'm not really worried about this anymore, trying to fix a function that didn't really do anything anyway and that I don't need. Thanks anyway.
Should've mentioned that Win 10 is fully updated to 1909 with all subsequent interim updates, as well as updates for drivers, BIOS, etc. through the HP support assistant. Also, checked Device Manager to see what audio driver I have since as I mentioned my audio is functional - it's got Realtek version 6.0.1.8557 which is an older version and not the one i tried to install (don't know how that happened).
Maybe audio control panel is meant for higher-end units with different (better) audio chipsets? This pc is a good little laptop but it is a budget unit. IDK.
