Hello,
Today, I have been using my computer for a long time while sitting at my desk to work. The ventilation worked sporadically and for brief periods of time and the laptop worked normally, with no glitch or any other errors or issues.
I was watching a video on YouTube using Google Chrome while I was charging my laptop when suddenly, there was a loud and continuous BIP from the speakers and the screen turned into peachy horizontal lines. While in this state, the loud continuous BIP was still on. The computer refused to respond to any command (like ctrl+alt+canc) and the only way to shut it off and stop that sound was to press the power bottom until it shut off.
Once off, I tried to turn it one and it worked perfectly and also very quickly. Everything was back to normal and there was no blue screen or error message pop-up window.
It had happened another two times in total, and every time it was while it was charging and I was either watching a video or reading something through the browser. In both occasion, immediately after turning it on, the ventilation system started working very loudly; however, the duration changed. Once, it worked more or less for 5 minutes, another time for more than 20 and this time for less than 3 minutes in total.
This has happened before and after I updated my computer and downloaded all the pending windows live update. My laptop is a convertible one and is running a Windows 10, 64-bit as its operating system.
Up to now, I'd never had any issues with my ENVY, so I would really appreciate if you can help me out and pinpoint what is the issue.
The laptop is still under warranty and I would really like not to send it back for maintenance since I'm a PhD student and I work with my laptop most days.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Steph

Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community.
I reviewed the case regarding issues with the computer crashes randomly. I will be delighted to assist you here.
Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 😉
In this case, I would recommend you to follow this link and update the BIOS of the notebook, which would get it fixed. 🙂
Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. 😉

I've updated the BIOS through the link and the laptop seems to be working just fine today. I haven't been using it a lot today, but I had no issue so far.
Thanks a lot, again!

Hello again,
I'm afraid to inform you that the problem as just resurfaced.
Same modality as the one presented in the previous post: I've been using my laptop all day with no issue whatsoever and the ventilation working fine. However, just a few minutes ago, while it was charging and I was watching a video on YouTube, the screen turned white-peachy and there was the loud sound like a continuous beep. I had to forcefully shut it down by pressing the power bottom until it went off. Once restarted it works fine: no error message or pop up windows reporting issues and no blue screen or any other warnings.
I've updated the BIOS, as per your instruction, and also all the possible software and hardware update found in the HP Support Assistant and the one on Windows Update.
Do you have any other possible solution to this issue?
Looking forward to hearing from you again,
Steph
