Pavilion dv6
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hello, my laptop which is a HP pavilion dv6, running windows 8.1 (64-bit) with 6gb ram and i5. The problem is that the sound is not working due to the fact that the sound icon is showing a X (cross) red mark saying "no speakers or audio devices are plugged in". I went to playback devices and tried to enable it but it doesn't show the option to enable- as if its showing it is enabled already. But i double clicked it and showed that it was disabled in the enhancements (Status: Disabled). I also went in to the Device Manager to see if it was disabled there. However, it wasn't disabled there either. Although i did try to disable and enable it just to see if its working, but sadly it didn't. Please help me as much as you can.. dear community!

Kind regards,

Jun.

Hi:

Your notebook is not supported by HP for W8.1

The only suggestion I can offer would be to install the W8.1 IDT audio driver from a newer model PC and see if that gets the sound to work again.

Restart the PC after installing the driver...

I see, i didn't know that my laptop doesn't support W 8.1 as i have been using it well until few days ago (used it around 2years without any problem),

i will try the solution.. do i have to uninstall the already installed audio device to install the one you suggested sir?

Kindly, Jun
