Hi there, I am facing a problem with my inner microphone which just stops working. I had this problem before HP send me the recovery USB and I fixed this problem. It is just a month now again I am facing the same problem. Anyone here who knows how to fix it cause I can't recover the windows every time?

Your opinions will be highly appreciated.

@jehanzaibch

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
  • Have you made any hardware/software changes?
  • Did you make any changes to the settings of your PC prior to the issue?
  • When was the last time it worked fine?

While you respond to that, let's try these steps:

Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8. (do not skip any troubleshooting steps even if you feel steps are repeating)

BIOS default:

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer. If the issue persists, follow the next steps.

perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant: (do not skip any troubleshooting steps if you feel steps are repeating)

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

And, also run  BIOS Update: Follow steps from the link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

I had that issue before a like a month ago. HP send me a recovery USB I did the recovery. It starts working but after using it for a month it happens again. I have not made any changes to devise software. I guess it just happens after windows update. I have follows bios default setting it didn't work.

Now, what I should do. I am fed up with this problem

I have a very similar issue, and I have a 64-bit OS.

I tried to roll back the Intel SST driver to 9.21.3690.1 which had been updated on 4/2/2020 for my machine (right about when the problem started, though I've only had this computer for a month-and-a-half and have not used the mic all that much).

I have tried the BIOS re-selecting default devices. I've tried updating the system - uninstalling, reinstalling audio drivers. Kind of running out of ideas.

I did notice that when running the audio check (the launchable under Fixes & Diagnostics), it claims the SST is Device 2 (Default), while when looking at Audio portion in general specifications under HP Support Assistant, SST is Device 3. Maybe that has absolutely nothing to do with it....I'm kind of grasping at straws here...

Help!

I should also mention that I do see the microphone picking up audio when looking at it under settings, but when going to any kind of application like voice recorder or zoom, that same audio device registers nothing. I've looked at the privacy settings, and I don't see anything that looks suspicious, but it does feel to me that the OS is not allowing apps to access the device for some reason.

I have spectre 15 inch. I was having the same problem and was unable to pick up sound in any apps, websites, camera, etc. Try going to audio control (bang &olufsen) and go to the input tab. Click on only my voice instead of multiple voices and if that doesn't work, turn off the noise reduction option. See how those go for you! This fixed my problem. Now, I can finally vid conference.

Still haven't found a fix for this. I've tried playing around with the sound settings dialog (recording tab), but disabling, and re-enabling the default mic array doesn't make a difference. I also don't see any specific Bang & Olufsen SW or drivers....maybe I'm not looking in the right place?

Cheers!

I am experiencing the same issue as well. The B&O sound settings can be found by searching "HP Audio Control" in the taskbar. It's an app that'll open with tabs labeled: General, Input, & Output. The setting they were talking about are under input. It has made mine slightly, slightly better but I'm still only getting the level meter to move maybe 5ish percent. Cortana can't hear me or anything still and I'll give Zoom a second try tomorrow. I'm positive that my Mics used to work flawlessly and I've checked for  obstructions/driver updates etc

I am so fed up with all this cause I just bought a few months ago and I saw this problem after using it for a couple of months. What solution you have for my problem?
