I have an HP windows 7 that I purchased several years ago. All was fine until I tried to fast forward a video on facebook. All of a sudden my sound disappeared on on programs regardless of whether chrome or IE, games, etc. I've done a lot of trouble shooting but still no sound. My sound is not muted.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.
- What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824
- Are you able to see a sound icon on the task bar which is next to the system clock?
- Have you tried playing external audio using earphone or headset?
I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue: ( for all HP laptop computers )
Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8.
BIOS default:
- Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
- Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
- On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
- Press F10 to Save and Exit.
- Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
- Follow the prompts to restart your computer.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thank you for posting back.
Let's try reinstalling windows Operating System which will determine whether its software or hardware issue.
The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.
Click here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c06162205 to Use the HP Cloud Recovery Tool (Windows 10, 7)
- Note: If it's a hardware related issue with the speakers then the computer needs to be serviced.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
