Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

Input device (Microphone) and Camera as well stopped working properly. In Sound settings, I see that in the 'Recording' tab, default microphone is showing as 'Not plugged in' status. I've tried to update Audio drivers, checking windows for an update, but nothing worked. It was working properly yesterday.

Hi @GeorgeShav

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like your microphone and camera stopped working suddenly, and your microphone shows as "Not plugged in" in the Sound settings. Since you've already tried updating the drivers and checking for Windows updates without success, let's go through a few additional troubleshooting steps to try and resolve the issue:

1. Check Physical Connections (if using external mic)

If you’re using an external microphone or headset, make sure it is properly plugged into the correct port. Check the following:

  • Re-plug the microphone: Unplug it and plug it back in to make sure it’s securely connected.
  • If your laptop has both headphone and microphone jacks, ensure the microphone is connected to the correct one (usually the pink one, if you have a separate mic jack).
  • Try the microphone on a different device (if possible) to check if it’s working properly.

2. Enable the Microphone in Sound Settings

If the microphone is being detected as "Not plugged in," it could be disabled in Windows Sound settings. Here’s how to check and enable it:

  1. Right-click the speaker icon in the system tray and select Sounds.
  2. Go to the Recording tab.
  3. Right-click on an empty space in the window and select Show Disabled Devices.
  4. If you see your microphone listed but disabled, right-click it and select Enable.
  5. Set it as Default Device by right-clicking and selecting Set as Default Device.

3. Run the Windows Troubleshooter for Audio

Windows has a built-in troubleshooter that can help diagnose and fix common problems with your audio devices:

  1. Right-click the speaker icon in the system tray and select Troubleshoot sound problems.
  2. Follow the prompts to detect and fix issues with your microphone.

If the troubleshooter detects an issue with your microphone or sound device, it may offer a fix.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Rachel571,

thanks for suggested recommendations. I have followed your recommendations, but none of them helped me to fix the issue.

1. When I use my AirpodsPro, I have access to the microphone. (That's from Airpods, I guess)

2. Microphone in sound settings -> 'Recording' shows as 'not plugged in' and i am not able to enable it. Tried to disable -> enable, but still shows as 'Not plugged in'

I see some Microphone Events:

3. Windows Troubleshooter did not detect any issue with Microphone
