Integrated speakers on Elitebook 840 do not cut out when docked with alternative speakers

Elitebook 840 G3
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I just got a brand new HP Elitebook 840 G3.

I have a 2013 UltraSlim Docking Station with soundbar attached.

When I dock, I get audio from both the soundbar AND the integrated speakers at the same time.

I want it configured so when docked audio is only sent to the soundbar.

On a related note, the audio does not seem to go to the headphones automatically when I plug them into the headphone jack.

The computer has not to my knowledge been dropped or damaged in any way.

I've pocked around in the audio settings but nothing is jumping out at me.

What should I be looking for?

Integrated speakers on Elitebook 840 do not cut out when docked with alternative speakers

Hi caleyjag,

Have you made sure that you set the external speakers as the default device?

Not really adept at Windows 7 but should be something along the lines:

  1. Control Panel > Sound
  2. Select the desired speaker
  3. Set as Default
  4. Also do this for the Recording tab

You might want to see if uninstalling the audio driver and reinstalling helps.

Hope this helps,
