Did you follow his steps exactly? I found the correct .exe file for my laptop and the installation keeps failing. Still have no microphone detected in the device manager. UGH.

I did follow his steps, except that my laptop needed more than that single driver update. So I updated everything that was highlighted, using the most recent files. It's possible that there is a component in a different driver that applies to the microphone, so I suggest you check for other updates in the scan.

This is a real pain, At the very least, Microsoft or HP should offer assistance with fixing the issue, since so many of us have experienced the problem.

Have you tried  downloading  and installing as I suggested the small utility program called "DriverIdentifier" (the most simple & easy driver updating tool)  from the "DriverIdentifier" website.  As I indicated throughout my message, the solution (reinstallation) for the missing microphone (the driver) was specificalli made for my two  laptop computers (ie: HP OMEN By HP Laptop 17-ck0xxx).  By the way, the "DriverIdentifier" can be installed as a normal program or it can be used without previous installation.

Oncer you  have installed the "DriverIdentifier" utility (program) you then run the utility on your computer.  As the utility scans your computer, it will identify, not only (almost all) your computer information but also all the drivers that have been installed or are missing from your computer.  Once the scab is completed, the "DriverIdentifier" utility will open your default browser and display a list of all the drivers found on your computer.  On the scan produced by  the "DriverIdentifier" utility  for my computers, the first driver definiton was, indeed, for the "Microphone Array (Intel Smart Sound Technology for Digital Microphones" and I was told that the driver was missing.  For my computers, downloading the file "sp154034.exe" (with version number 9.21.3690.632 and released date of 2024-07-23) did indeed brought back the missing microphone driver.

It appears that downloading and trying to install the file "sp154034.exe" did not help solving the problem with the missing microphone driver for your computer (HP ENVY 17).  Then try downloading and running the "DriverIdentifier" utility (program) - the utility might suggest a different driver.  By the way, the internal components inside your computer are probably quite different than the components of my laptops, but the CPU might need the same drivers.

If you have additional questions do not hesitate to ask...

As you hinted, more than one driver might be needed to solve the missing microphone - I was probably lucky as, after installing the "sp154034.exe" file (driver and restarting the computers, the internal microphone on both laptops were back...

One of the reason (out of probably a million) for the lack of cooperation from either Microsoft and/or HP is that the disappearing microphone problem might be/have been encountered by only a few of us who use the internal computer microphone ... why should they be bothered by only a few users... 😲

I followed your instructions with the minor modifications of selecting the most "recent" driver update(s); and I'm happy to report that it did indeed work!  Prior to the screenshot (below) it would display "No device."
