Hi @Lonnie_D_Adkins ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the AVG driver update might have inadvertently removed or misconfigured your audio drivers. Let's resolve this by following these steps:
Step 1: Verify Audio Device in Device Manager
- Open Device Manager:
- Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
- Expand "Sound, video, and game controllers":
- Look for your audio device (e.g., Realtek, Intel Smart Sound, or other audio drivers).
- Check for Errors:
- If there’s a yellow triangle, red cross, or no audio devices listed:
- Note the error message.
- If there’s a yellow triangle, red cross, or no audio devices listed:
- Scan for Hardware Changes:
- In Device Manager, click Action > Scan for hardware changes to detect missing devices.
Step 2: Reinstall Audio Drivers
- Uninstall Current Audio Drivers:
- In Device Manager, right-click your audio device (or “High Definition Audio Device”) and select Uninstall Device.
- Check the option Delete the driver software for this device, if available.
- Download and Reinstall Drivers:
- Visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads page for your specific laptop model:
- HP Laptop PC 15-dw3000 (1A3Y1AV).
- HP Laptop 15-dw3071cl (3B0F4UA).
- Download and install the latest Audio Driver (Realtek, Intel, or generic as applicable).
- Visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads page for your specific laptop model:
- Restart Your Laptop:
- Restart after the installation is completed.
Step 3: Reset Audio Settings
- Set Default Audio Device:
- Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select Sounds > Playback tab.
- Ensure the correct audio device is set as Default.
- Test Audio:
- Play a sound or use the Test option in the Playback tab.
- Microphone Troubleshooting:
- Navigate to Sounds > Recording tab and ensure the mic is selected and active.
- If the mic is missing, it will likely reappear after the audio drivers are installed.
Step 4: Roll Back or Reinstall Drivers Using Windows
- Roll Back Driver (if option exists):
- In Device Manager, right-click the audio device > Properties > Driver tab > Roll Back Driver.
- Let Windows Update Search for Drivers:
- Right-click the audio device in Device Manager and select Update Driver > Search automatically for drivers.
Step 5: System Restore (if still unresolved)
- Restore System to a Previous Point:
- Search for Create a restore point in the Start menu.
- In the System Protection tab, click System Restore and follow the prompts to restore to a point before running the AVG driver update.
Optional: Recheck AVG Driver Settings
Sometimes third-party driver tools can misclassify drivers as outdated. You might want to:
- Open the AVG driver updater and check for a backup option to revert changes.
- Disable automatic driver updates in the AVG settings.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
