Recently my spectre folio starting emitting a loud, shrill sound that can happen at anytime during a session. During these periods, the computer continues to operate ok. If I close the laptop the sound MAY stops or will stop on its own after a period of times (5 seconds to longer than a minute). I have had Geek Squad conduct a thorough scan (no issues), and took it in to Best Buy, but they were reluctant to open the leather case. Has anyone experienced this? Is if something potentially fatal?
Thanks..

Thank you so very much for replying and offering remedies to this problem. I chose to take the least severe route and update the audio driver first. After the installation, I heard maybe one horrible sound. However, after a reboot, the problem seems to be fixed. It's been two days now, and I am happy to report that the annoying 'alarm' has not returned.
Thank you again Ub6424.
