unsure if it's 32 or 64 bit
Had to break the S mode in order to use Zoom. No matter what i do the others cannot hear me. It's not a question of muting vs unmuting. I've done the HP troubleshooting sequences. According to the specs this laptop has an internal mic. Anyone have ideas? Should I purchase an external mic.? Headphones aren't useful for what I do. thx.

If the system has a microphone, there are a couple of places to check what might be happening...
First things first - find out if your microphone is working and is set up with necessary permissions.
Settings > System > Sound
OR
Right-Click on the tiny sound icon in your Taskbar and open Sound Settings
Output
The first section is for the speakers. Depending in your equipment, you might have more than one set of speakers available.
Input
This is where you find your "input" device list, that is, microphone(s) that can process your voice.
Assuming the internal microphone exists, is selected, and is working, you can easily test the microphone by simple speaking in a normal voice - talk to your computer, in other words. Watch for a reaction in the bar next to the microphone icon under "Test your microphone".
There are also bits to check the device properties, Troubleshoot, and "manage".
Next, check to be sure what you think you are seeing in Settings is what the computer thinks is going on.
Control Panel > icon view > Sound
Click on Tab Playback
Make sure the Microphone is selected as the Default ✔️
Left-Click on that Internal Microphone (to highlight) > Properties
Down at the bottom of Properties > tab General
Make sure the "Device Usage" is set to "Use this device (enable)"
Click OK to save any changes in Properties
Click OK to save / exit the Sound menu
Back to Settings...
Settings > Privacy > Microphone
Make sure "Allow apps to access your Microphone" is set to ON
Scroll down
Make sure "Allow desktop apps to access your microphone" is set to ON
Secondary...
Not directly applicable for Zoom..
Under "Choose which Microsoft Store apps can access your microphone"
For the purpose of testing your camera, make sure the the Camera Application is set to "ON"
Device Home Page - References and Resources – Learn about your Device - Solve Problems
