Using the microphone for the first time (due to suddenly needing to use Zoom because of covid-19), I find that the sound produced when I use the microphone is very noisy, impossible to use. What's the fix?

Hi,

Do you have the same problem with recording audio with the Voice Recorder App or the Camera App?

I have a Envy x360 15m-cn0012dx.

I was having the same problem with Zoom and the Voice Recorder App and the Camera App.

I downloaded and installed the latest BIOS update. No improvement.

So in Device Manager I had uninstalled both the Intel High Definition Audio and the RealTek(R) Audio that showed up under Sound, video, and game controllers.

I then installed the RealTek(R) Audio device using the driver file on the HP Software/Drivers support site (I have the Kaby Lake processor). Now the RealTek(R) Audio device has a driver date of 9/3/2019 and the version is 6.0.8791.1 .

So here is something to try as it greatly improved the audio being recorded (and then played back). After a restart I brought up the HP Audio Control app. With "General" selected it showed the input as being "Microphone Array". With "Input" selected it showed that "HP Noise Reduction" was enabled. I turned off the noise reduction and then tried recording audio with the microphone array with the Voice Recorder app and the Camera app. There wasn't any more distorted audio. Maybe it will work for you. Let me know.

Once I finish this reply I am going to try and figure out how to install the Intel High Definition Audio device (though everything is working fine). Just to see if there is some interaction.
