Hello dear friends,

I am writing this forum post because I have a real issue with my microphone. Actually it is working but so barely that other people hear my voice only from very far. I really have to shout and even then, people can hardly hear me. Ofcourse I first tried the options google had to offer me:

 - right click on the sound icon down right the screen. Hit the record tab. Select properties, go to levels and boost the microphone to 100 (= max settings).

- In the settings menu of windows, go to system, then sound, then the problem solver. Ofcourse no problems where detected. If i tried to test the microphone, it indicates the max value is about 7%.

- uninstalling all drivers and let microsoft re-install by restarting your laptop.

- I ran the problem solver from HP Support Assistance. No problems where found.

As a microphone, I am using the build in microphone from the laptop and a external headset (Nubwo N11). I hope you guys can help my out. Thank you in advance.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
  • Have you made any hardware/software changes?
  • Are you using NVIDIA or Intel CPU?

Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi Echo_Lake,

Thank you for your reply. Regarding your questions:

  • I am not sure when this exact problem occured. To be honest, I didn't use this laptop for videocall purposes in a very long time. Last time was probably about a year ago and I didn't notice any difficulties then.
  • No, just using windows making sure everything is updated accordingly. I am using the drivers only approved / downloaded by HP (HP Support Assistant Software).
  • I have a intel CPU namely the Intel i7 8550U @ 1,8 Ghz and a Nvida GPU Geforce MX150.

I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

  • Step 1: Check the microphone hardware (do not skip any troubleshooting steps if you feel steps are repeating)
  • Step 2: Update the audio driver
  • Step 3: Use the Troubleshooting tool
  • Step 4: Configure the sound settings in Windows
  • Click here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03421813 to complete the troubleshooting step.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hello,

I tried all the steps. None of them had any effect. However, on a few occasions I received some error messages:

When trying the problem solving tool as described in step 4 I received the following message (translated): "Audio extensions are not loaded - Not solved."

In trying step 5: I see no microphone boost, only the external microphone settings:

Thus everything has still no effect unfortunately 😞

Quick update:

It turns out my problems are solved. What I did is the following:

running windows update while keeping your external mic plugged in. Then click on optional updates. I had the option to install a bunch of Itel drivers and it turned out this actually helped in my case.

Thank you for the support. You can close my case.
