How do I attach an external in-line microphone?  I've tried with and without a splitter, but the laptop doesn't recognize an in-line microphone or microphone mixer.  Only the onboard microphone appears in the settings.

Hi @4ta

Welcome to the HP Support Community. Thanks for bringing this to our notice.

I see that you are facing external microphone connection-related issues on your system. Do not worry, we are here to fix it.

  • May I know from when are you facing this issue?
  • Did you make any hardware or software-related changes to it?
  • Try connecting an alternate microphone and check.

To install a new microphone, follow these steps:

Make sure the microphone is connected to the computer.

Choose "Start"> "Settings"> "System"> "Sound".

In the "Sound" settings, go to "Input"> "Select Input Device" and select the microphone or recording device you want to use.

To test the installed microphone, do the following:

Make sure the microphone is connected to the computer.

Choose "Start"> "Settings"> "System"> "Sound".

In the "Sound" settings, go to "Input"> "Test Microphone" and find the blue bar that will rise and fall when you speak into the microphone. If the blue bar moves, the microphone is working properly.

If the blue bar does not move, select "Troubleshoot" to repair the microphone.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.

I purchased a sound card and that seems to have resolved the issue.  Following the instructions provided did not help with connecting the microphone.
