Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

My mute button (the button above delete and next to the wifi button) used to change from white and orange depending on the sound status. If it was muted, then it would come out as orange. If it was unmuted, it would come out as white. However, it is currently staying on orange despite me changing it from muted to unmute. I've tried going to the audio panel to change the muting, but that didn't make the colour change back. What should I do now?

Update: It's now white, but like orange, stays on white despite me clicking on it. I don't know when it changed - I haven't shut down my computer since.
