Hi,
Try the following.
Download the Windows 8.1 IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63501-64000/sp63555.exe
When done, hold down the Windows key and press R
Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter.
In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63001-63500/sp63408.exe
When the Chipset reinstallation has completed, shutdown the notebook.
Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds. Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu. Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, restart the notebook and let windows fully load for a few minutes before checking.

Hi,
Open windows Control Panel and in the top right, next to View by: select 'Large Icons'. From the new layout, see if the 'Beats' icon is listed.
If it's not, try downloading and running the IDT installer on the link below again.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63501-64000/sp63555.exe
When this has completed, restart the notebook.

Hello DPK, I took the stress of registering an account with HP just to drop this comment.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR HELPING ME RESOLVE MY LAPTOP SOUND ISSUE.
Since I got my HP Envy, the sound has not been audible at all making me wonder if this as normal with HP Envy or there was an issue cos my former laptop was another HP product and very audible.
I am not alone in this. I run an entrepreneurship blog - The Total Entrepreneurs and in the forum I have received similar complains so I took it upon myself to seek a solution and while surfing the net for solution I bumped into your contribution here. Took me a while but I eventually pulled through and the speakers are banging now.
Just want to say a big thank you. I and my team are very grateful.
