HP Envy notebook model: 15-j040el. Product: E4N80EA#ABZ
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When I bought the laptop 7 years ago (with Windows 8), the inbuilt Beats speakers were very loud.  But after I moved over to Windows 10, the speakers are not loud at all even at maximum. Instead, the headphones are loud enough even at a quarter of maximum.   Could anybody help me sort out this speaker problem, please?

Hi Paul,

Thank you for all the help you gave me.

However, I just found a solution on HP community support that led me to this driver download page.

It advised me to first uninstall the current driver and then install this driver (sp63555.exe) and it worked.  The speakers are much louder than before and are automatically switched off on plugging the headphones.

Probably, your driver would have worked had I clean uninstalled the previous driver.  "Sp63555.exe" was already there in my Download folder and I replaced it.

Thanks Paul once again.

Hi:

See if installing this W10 IDT audio driver from a newer model notebook, and restarting the PC, resolves the problem.

Hi Paul,

I must confess I'm no expert at all.

I tried your solution: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp71501-72000/sp71886.exe, and I find the volume of  the speakers (Beats) inoticeably louder than before.

However, now both the speakers and the headphones are on simultaneously.  When you plug in the headphone, the speakers automatically switch off. But not anymore.

Thanks

Unfortunately, I don't know what the driver would cause that to happen.

Seems like it fixed one issue and caused another one.

I guess you will have to decide which one is a worse problem.

The low volume or the speakers not shutting off.

You can see if you can go back to the older driver by going to the device manager, click to expand the Sound, video and game controllers device manager category.

Click on the IDT audio device listed there.  Click on the driver tab, and click on the roll Rack driver button if it is not grayed out.

You're very welcome.

Glad the older driver worked for you.

I didn't think it worked anymore on the newer builds of W10.
