Hello all!

 

The sound (speakers, headphones and microphone) stopped working after installing some updates. Since my son used some 3rd party software to update drivers, I wondered if the wrong drivers were applied and decided to recover the initial instalation.

I did use de HP Recovery Manager do clean the PC and reinstall de initial version from the laptop, using the RECOVERY drive.

The problem persists. I can't see any audio device and there is a message like "there is no audio device installed".

I used de HP.com website to download the latest drivers (sp88578.exe), but the problem persists.

I tried to install also de graphic drivers (sp88838.exe), but the installer copies the files but nothing happens then.

I installed the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows and executed the audio component test and it was approved.

I installed the HP Support Assistant and executed the audio test and the software is unable to fix it: no speaker found, no microfone found.

I think I followed all the troubleshouting tips on HP support site, but nothing seems to solve the issue.

 

Can anyone help me out on this, please?

Please perform a clean install Audio software/driver, this should help.


   (a) Download the following driver and save on your computer,
               https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp112001-112500/sp112407.exe

   (b) Go to Device Manager, Sound to uninstall sound driver (Realtek) and reboot,
   (c) Right click downloaded file and select Run as administrator,
   (d) Reboot again.

 

Or use older driver (if newer driver did not work properly)

 

      https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp107001-107500/sp107248.exe

Thank you, @Banhien, for you quick reply.

 

I did try almost all the drivers available on HP support web site. But I don't remember those numbers. Maybe this would work too.

 

Nevertheless, before I saw your reply I also updated the BIOS, and after that I opened the device manager and there were new entries in sounds and gaming node, as well as some realtek audio nodes with alerts below the system device node. I've just selected "update driver" on the device manager for those and it started working fine.

 

Have to say that all the resources made available by HP support (maintenance software and drivers) are great! Having bought an HP notebook was a good choice.
