HP Spectre x-360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My microphone only barely picks up my voice but it is too quiet for others to hear in meetings. It used to work just fine for me but no longer does. When I test it in system settings, it tells me that the highest value that it saw was "2 percent". This is apparently too quiet for meetings but does pull in just enough sound to recognize that there is sound. If I tap the laptop during the test, I can get the volume test to report about 20 percent.

Here is what I have tried:

  • Boosting mic volume to 100 in both system settings and in the device manager
  • Uninstalling driver from device manager and reinstalling it
  • Running all available computer, Intel, and HP updates
  • Browsing forums for additional possible solutions suggested
  • Sinking into utter despair
  • Using my phone for my meeting audio since this won't work for me

Jokes aside, I would appreciate your help! I don't want to always have to connect my bluetooth headphones to make this work. Thanks everyone!

I found a working solution in the following reddit forum:  https://www.reddit.com/r/spectrex360/comments/fkcjvl/microphone_not_working/

I went to Control Panel => Ease of Access => Set up Microphone and it did a voice recognition check and then my mic started working.

My computer model is the HP Spectre x360 - 13-aw0013dx. It is also worth noting that I plugged in a wireless headset with a USB dongle and it has the same mic issue on this computer. However, bluetooth headset mics work fine.

I am having the same problem with my HP Pavilion  15-eg0xxx which I bought one month ago. As soon as I start meeting on Zoom the microphone goes dead. I have done everyting proposed by HP Assistant to no avail. It is very frustrating. I have Tinnitus and it is painful to use headsets. I am desperate for a solution. Thank you for any assistance that anyone may give.
