Roll Back Windows Update

If the issue persists, the Windows update might be incompatible:

  1. Go to Settings > Windows Update > Update history.

Hi @Kausik2468,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the Windows update caused an issue with your laptop's audio drivers, possibly removing or disabling them. Here's how you can resolve the issue.

Verify Missing Drivers

Open Device Manager:

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  • Check the categories you mentioned:
    • Audio inputs and outputs
    • Ports (COM & LPT)
    • Sound, video and game controllers

If any of these categories or devices are missing, proceed to reinstall the drivers.

Reinstall Audio Drivers

Check for Updates via Device Manager:

  • Right-click on your computer name in Device Manager and select Scan for hardware changes.
  • If this doesn't help, try reinstalling the drivers manually:
    • Right-click each device under "Sound, video and game controllers" and select Uninstall device (if visible).
    • Restart your computer, and Windows should attempt to reinstall the drivers automatically.

Download Drivers from HP Website:

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page.
  • Enter your laptop model.
  • Download the latest audio driver available for your device.

Install Default High-Definition Audio Driver

If reinstalling HP drivers doesn't work, use the default Windows driver:

  1. Right-click on Sound, video and game controllers in Device Manager.
  2. Select Update driver > Browse my computer for drivers > Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
  3. Choose High Definition Audio Device and click Next to install it.

Verify System Settings

  1. Go to Settings > System > Sound.
  2. Under Output, ensure your laptop speakers are selected.
  3. Under Input, ensure the built-in microphone is selected.
