Afternoon all.
I have almost successfully downgraded the OS of my HP Pavilion G series g6-1338sa from Windows 7 to Windows XP 32-bit. Months back I received some great help on the forum here and despite XP not being supported (or recommended) I rolled back to XP. All drivers appear to have installed fine, apart from audio. I have read the forum post about possible issues with this G6 on XP, and decided to proceed regardless. Unfortunately it falls into the "difficult" category on that thread, and has appeared to be just that!!
I can get audio via HDMI to my TV when using that as a monitor. The audio comes out of the TV speaker fine.
However I'd be looking to travel with this and ideally would like the audio from the laptop itself. Or at least the earphones out, both of which do not work at all. The only way I can get audio at present is through the external screen via HDMI.
I have tried many sp____.exe files, 20+ at least.
I have tried to install various audio drivers such as IDT, Realtek - all with no luck and I've just about max'd out my skillset level with this in truth!
The latest update is I have IDT showing in device manager, with an error saying "Cannot start, error 10".
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated at this point!
Have a good weekend all.
Frieda

Hi, Frieda:
Looking at the list of available IDT audio drivers on your notebook's support page, I was able to closely match an XP driver that has the same driver version of the older driver on your notebook's support page...6.10.6341.0.
This is from the HP 4535s notebook...
6.10.6341.0
Windows XP (32-bit)
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp53501-54000/sp53628.exe
The only drivers you should try installing are the IDT audio drivers.
Realtek, Conexant, ADI, etc, won't work.
BTW, you indicated that the audio problem was solved by another driver I gave you back in March of this year.

Thanks so much Paul, helpful as ever!
I did indeed say that the audio issue was resolved in March. (I'd kind of hoped you didn't remember that haha!)
The reason I say that is I was slightly premature / incorrect to say that was "resolved".
Reason being it turns out that the help you'd given me in March, which I remain most grateful for, was enough for the audio to work on an external monitor via HDMI cable to my tv. I was unaware at the time that as soon as this TV was no longer connected to my notebook that it would no longer have audio - sadly!!
This comment you made today:
"The only drivers you should try installing are the IDT audio drivers.
Realtek, Conexant, ADI, etc, won't work".... this is most helpful to me.
As novice as this may sound, I was actually unaware of this. I thought I may well fluke a close enough match with a Realtek driver. This has saved me a lot of time in going down that route. I will give the sp53628.exe a try!! 🙂
Regards
Frieda

Ah... For sp56328.exe:
"The hardware is not compatible with this software package. This install will be aborted".
That's a shame! But thank you.
Is the earphones outlet different hardware, or would it be a case of never going to work if I cannot get the notebook audio speakers working? Is the earphone jack connected to the onboard soundcard (I think I am trying to say!) If that makes any sense at all..
Thanks.

Would you or Paul happen to know how i'd find my exact hardware line(?) of my soundcard...
I believe it should look something like that?
In the meantime I am going to try the further drivers included on the link you sent me. 😊
