Hi @RhoJo1
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can follow to try and resolve the problem.
Check Sound Settings:
- Right-click on the speaker icon in the system tray (usually located in the bottom-right corner of the screen) and select "Open Sound settings."
- Under the "Output" section, make sure the speakers are set as the default audio output device.
Restart Your Computer:
- Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve sound issues. Restart your laptop and check if the speakers are working afterward.
Check Volume Levels:
- Ensure that the volume is not muted and is turned up to an audible level. You can adjust the volume from the sound settings or by using the physical volume buttons on your laptop.
Update Audio Drivers:
- Outdated or corrupted audio drivers can cause sound problems. Visit the HP support website and see if they have any updated audio drivers for your laptop model. If available, download and install the latest drivers.
Run Windows Troubleshooter:
- Windows has a built-in troubleshooter that can automatically detect and fix common sound problems. Go to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Troubleshoot" > "Playing Audio" and follow the on-screen instructions.
Check for Windows Updates:
- Make sure your Windows operating system is up-to-date. Sometimes, Windows updates include fixes for various hardware issues, including sound problems.
Disable Audio Enhancements:
- Sometimes, audio enhancements or effects can cause issues. To disable them:
- Right-click on the speaker icon in the system tray and select "Open Sound settings."
- Under the "Output" section, click on "Device properties" for your speakers.
- Go to the "Enhancements" tab and check the box for "Disable all enhancements." Click "Apply" and then "OK."
Reinstall Audio Drivers:
- If updating the audio drivers doesn't work, try uninstalling and reinstalling them:
- Right-click on the "Start" button and select "Device Manager."
- Expand the "Sound, video, and game controllers" section.
- Right-click on your audio device and select "Uninstall device."
- Restart your computer, and Windows will automatically reinstall the audio drivers.
Check BIOS Settings:
- Since you mentioned a BIOS update, you might want to check if there are any relevant audio settings in the BIOS. Ensure that the audio settings are configured correctly.
Restore to a Previous State:
- If the issue occurred after a recent software or driver update, you can try using Windows System Restore to revert your system to a point when the speakers were working correctly.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, it's possible that there might be a hardware problem with the laptop's speakers.
