Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm using a HP laptop where Windows 7 OS was updated to Windows 10. I found that my laptop buit in speaker is not working. I can't hear any sound from laptop speaker. But I can hear sound well through headphones. If I run troubleshooter for sound while youtube is playing, the sound appears, when I close the troubleshooting window, the sound disappears.

I cannot find anywhere what is the product number, all i can see is Pavilion dv6 on my computer. Fn+esc dont work.

Please help me to solve this problem. Thank you!

Don't worry, I'm here to help!

Let's try these steps -

1) In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
2) Double-click Sound, video and game controllers.
3) Right click on the Audio drivers and click on uninstall.
4) Restart the computer.

Also, try updating the computer -

Step 1 Windows Updates troubleshooter -

Click on this link to run Windows Updates troubleshooter.

Step 2 Windows Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Step 3 HP Support Assistant Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for replying.

Go the device manager and expand  the "Sound, video and game controllers".

If your computer has a Conexant Audio driver, download and install the driver from this link.

If your computer has an IDT High-Definition Audio driver, download and install the driver from this link.

To test the audio, try these steps -

1) Shutdown the computer.
2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.
3) Press F2 once.
4) Go to Component test.
5) From the list, run the Audio Test.

Keep me posted.

Hi Asmita,

My driver is IDT high defenition audio CODEC, I tried to install the driver from your link. At first time it gave me message:

ExitError= Error in installation, Call to GetDeviceRegistryPeoperty

Then I tried to reinstall it again and got this message:

The hardwear detected is not supported by this IDT softwear package

Thanks for letting me know.

Did you test the hardware? If the hardware is fine, I'd suggest you try re-installing the operating system. If you have the recovery media for Win 7, try installing the original OS.

Let me know.

Hi,

When I pressed ESC button repeadedly it did not work. I tried few times. I read somewhere that it also could work with F10. So I tried F10 and it brought me somewhere with the blue screen. I did not press F2 though because I was not sure if i am at the right place. So I just worked around there and left. After that, sound through headphone was back. And suddenly windows 10 updeted to 1803. But still no sound through speaker. May be now I should try again to install those drivers you gave me 🙂 or just leave it like that as mostly I use headphones or connect my computer through external speakers...

I dont have recovery win 7 as i bought it second hand with already win 10 installed.

Thanks for replying.

This looks like a software issue and re-installing the OS should fix it.

You may try the driver link again to see if that works. If it does not, try re-installing the Win 10 using the Media Creation Tool

Have a good day!
