Microsoft Windows 11

I bought a revamped 15" X60 Spectre loaded with Windows 11and everything was working ok for a few months. Then the audio system stopped working. The sound setting shows "No audio device installed". I have run Windows diagnostics and updated all the audio drivers (the only hardware shown is Intel Display Audio, no other audio hardware). I have reinstalled all the drivers and restarted, no difference. The HP diagnostics systems don't seem to work on my machine, maybe because of Windows 11, but it was all working fine. Not sure when Windows was last updated or if this  is related, but I can see from other posts this is a common problem on HP laptops in general. I have tried everything, including ideas from other similar posts, even checked the cable connections inside, but nothing makes any difference. I can connect to external speakers no problem. Its just the internal speaker system which the computer thinks does not exist. Any suggestions?
