Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

  • Have you tried any troubleshooting steps?
  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?

While you respond to that, let's try these steps:

Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8.

BIOS default:

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer. this should fix the issue.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi Echo_Lake

It does appear to have started after a Windows update, not sure which one though.  I have just tried the hard-reset suggestion you made, Orange light is still on.  Not tried the Bios default yet, I have noticed on Drivers support page, what looks like an old Realtek High Def Audo driver.  Would I be able to download that and wait for my Laptop to re-update it, would that work?  In my properties for the driver, there is not a link to do a rollback.  In the meantime I will try the Bios default.

Many thanks again, Jeff

Even keyboard drivers could cause this issue. I would suggest let's perform bios default settings in order to isolate the issue,

Work on it as per your convenience and keep me posted on the results.

Hi Echo_Lake

I tried the Bios suggestion of yours a couple of days ago and it worked, many thanks for that.  would have got back to you sooner, only I wanted to make sure it worked.

Again, thanks for your help.

Hello All..

I have sort of the same issue. However; my audio is not working fine. I have muted or not working B&O speaker bar, and the headphone jack has a extremely faint sounds. (Crackling mostly). I do have audio thru my USB port via my audio interface. Works perfect....

I have rolled back and re-installed drivers, system restored, reset bios settings, and now i have done a complete system reset only keeping my files.

I am at a loss right now..

My initial feeling was that this started after using the hdmi port to watch movies or something via tv.

Is there any way that the hdmi audio out is stuck on? Maybe would explain why orange light and muted soundbar, as well as headphones maybe...

Help....
