Pavilion cw1948nd
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Hi there,

I'm having troubles with the speakers of my brand new Pavilion cw1948nd. They often don't work, whereas there Windows doesn't report any issues in the device manager. The selected output device is ok and equalizer shows that sound is being generated in my Realtek soundcard, but it isn’t send to the speakers for some reason.

I have found only one way to solve the problem when it occurs: plug my headphones in the jack-input and unplug it again. Then my speakers work again.

Hope anyone can help me out. Thanks in advance!

Regards,

Wouter Beuman (the Netherlands)

@WouterBeuman here's what you need to know:

Audio devices might need to be disconnected from the computer during the troubleshooting process.

   CAUTION:

Always follow manufacturer instructions for disconnecting USB devices from the computer. Some USB devices must be turned off and/or ejected before they are disconnected from the computer. Some other USB devices support the Windows Safely Remove Hardware feature.

Make sure Windows can produce sound from the speakers before using this article. If the computer cannot play sound from the speakers, choose one of the HP support documents below to resolve that issue:

The best way to do that is using the HP Guided Troubleshooter:

Click here to access it (simply select your description of the issue from the bottom of the screen to gain access to the next set of steps that should resolve your concern).

Dear Riddle,

Thanks for your help. The HP trouble-shooter tells me to use the Windows trouble-shooter which isn't able to fix the issue. So again, my soundcard work fine. When the speakers of my laptop don't work, I plug-in my headphone. Then, I unplug my headphone and the speakers work again. Any idea what this could mean?

@WouterBeuman Let's run an extensive hardware test to identify any malfunctions within the hardware components of the device:

Install the latest version of the HP Hardware diagnostics (UEFI) on your device using this link: Click here for details

  • Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  • Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  • On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.
  • Click Extensive Test.
  • Click Run once, or Loop until error.
  • While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component display on the screen.

If a component fails a test, write down the failure ID (24-digit code) for when you respond back to us.

If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.
