Hi. I have a similar issue. HP Pavilion 15-DP0003NA. Device manager/Sound, video & game controllers shows Realtek (R) Audio and NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (Wave Extensible) WDM. My old HP Pavilion had an AMD processor and had an AMD HD driver so I assume I need an equivalent Intel driver?

Hi:
Your notebook does not have the onboard Intel graphics adapter, so there would be no Intel HDMI audio device.
Your notebook uses the Nvidia HDMI audio which is part of the nVidia graphics driver.
If you have no sound out of the HDMI port, make sure the nVidia HDMI audio device is selected as the output audio device in the windows control panel>hardware and sound>sound>manage audio devices section.
That would be the only suggestion I can offer.

Thanks for your speedy reply but I do not get the option to use the NVIDIA as the default and only the Realtek populates the list, despite the NVIDIA WDM being listed in the Sound, video and game controllers.

You're very welcome.
Glad you got it to work.
I had forgotten that my desktop PC has a nvidia graphics card, and my sound video and game controllers section has the NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device listed along with the Realtek HD audio.
But mine also has a nVidia High Definition audio device, which yours was missing, so I was going to reply back and suggest that you reinstall the nVidia graphics driver.
But since you got it fixed, there is no need to do anything else.

Unfortunately it appears that I have to run the audio troubleshooter every time I connect the HDMI cable. Hardly satisfactory. I also need to stop the edited**fan coming on every 30 seconds. Not impressed, HP.
