HP ENVY 17.3 inch Laptop PC 17-ch0000 (23T01AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

This issue has been present since laptop was new. Laptop less than 6 months old. Coil whine and crackling noise coming from speaker when not in use and not muted. When I mute the laptop, the crackling stops completely. If I play audio, there is no issue. only when the device is unmuted but not actively playing audio - the speaker will whine and crackle. Laptop has not been dropped, or damaged. I've attempted to play around with some audio settings per instructions from other sites, and attempted to update any audio drivers. Nothing is working, this noise should not be present for a speaker less than 6 months old.

Hi, see if you can run an audio check, that should give you an idea about the problem.

You can access the audio check with this link.

Secondly, Windows 11 drivers have been very challenging especially when your OS has been upgraded from a previous operating system like Windows 10 or 8 to Windows 11, so there is possibly an error with audio compatibility.

But still run an audio check first.

Ok so have ran the audio check - no issues detected. Is there a secondary solution I can attempt regarding drivers?

Since the audio check passed successfully, it means that it is possibly a hardware issue with the speakers. You could use your warranty depending on whether it is still valid to repair the audio device.
