Spectre x360 supwoofer issues

HP Spectre x360 15-BL110ND
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
I bought a new Spectre x360 a month or two ago. Everything worked perfect until today. Music suddenly sounds like Russian radio in a submarine, and I discovered that I'm missing all low sounds; the subwoofer frequencies.

What could this be? Bad driver or hardware malfunction? System analysis doesn't show any issues, and troubleshooters don't provide any solutions... What else can I try?

Spectre x360 supwoofer issues

Hi,

Try the following.

Download the Realtek HD Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp81501-82000/sp81605.exe

When done, hold down the Windows key and press R

Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter.

In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the Realtek device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.

When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp81501-82000/sp81647.exe

When the Chipset reinstallation has completed, restart the notebook.

When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the Realtek installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again and let windows fully load for a few minutes before checking.

Regards,

DP-K

Spectre x360 supwoofer issues

Hi DP-K,

Thanks for the clear steps for driver reinstallation.

Unfortunately it didn't solve the poor sound quality 😞

Any other thoughts?

By the way, the issue remains when I plugin some headphones...

Hi,

You're welcome :generic:

Try running a diagnostic on the audio system from the uefi diagnostic menu as follows.

Shutdown the notebook.

Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.  Select the Diagnostic Menu option ( f2 ) and run the audio component test.

Post back with the results, including any error codes that may be generated.

Regards,

DP-K

Thanks David, but that didn't work either.

I contacted HP support in my country, and after repeating all your suggestions they decided to schedule my laptop for repair. An engineer will visit in a few days / weeks. I'll keep you posted on the results.
