Hi, Does someone know if it's normal I can't select surround sound on my device when it's connected with a surround amplifier? I suppose a 1500 euro gaming laptop would have surround sound on board, just like my previous 500(!) euro laptop had. I also notice that my surround jack (a bit longer than a stereo jack) cannot completely enter the sound socket. Could it really be it has only stereo out? And if so, is there a solution for it? Thanks in advance!

@BroesWillis,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I checked the specifications of your computer and see that your computer has an onboard audio card and supports only 2.1 channel stereo.

The best alternative is to use an external USB sound card.

Hope that answers your question and you have a great day!

Thanks for the support, only too bad this is nowhere mentioned in the product descriptions when searching to buy this or another laptop.

Because not mentioned, and as my former 60% cheaper and seven years older laptop has 5,1 surround on board with a  3,5 inch combined stereo & sp/dif socket, I expected it would be normal these days on a game laptop.

Description says surround sound on board for surround head phones (rather misleading), and this while you can't even get real surround with a 2.1 sound card!

I suppose with a 2.1 channel output through an external USB sound card, the result will only be virtual surround sound. Or not?

I have a complete surround system waiting. Is my 2.1 sound card and stereo output socket replaceable by a 5.1 card with 3,5 inch sp/dif socket?

@BroesWillis,

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
