HP Pavilion Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

No error messages.  This is a recently new development.   The sound was coming across scratchy.  I searched the HP site for an update and found an audio fix.  I ran that and it cleared up the sound quality.  The next time I powered up the notebook the sound wasn’t working.  I happened to raise the top and poof the sound came on.  Close the top and it goes off.

Recommend you to open HP Support Assistant on your computer and it would give you the product number of your computer on your screen.

Also, please try the suggested procedure and let me know how it goes.

Greetings @Jarhead6670,

Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post.

I understand that your computer stops playing audio when you close the lid of your computer.

Don't worry, I will be glad to help.

Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own.

Have you checked the sleep settings?

May I know the exact model number of your computer? Click here

Recommend you uninstall the audio driver from device manager, delete the driver when prompted.

Restart your computer, open recovery manager and install the audio driver from the recovery manager.

Please refer to this HP Article for assistance in using recovery manager.

Let me know if this helped.
