aptop gives crackling noise when playing video and connected to power

I have already updated bios and all the drivers. Also gone over the other forum solutions.  But no solution did work for me.

I have HP ENVY - 15t Laptop with 6th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6500U Dual Core Processor + NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M 4GB Discrete Graphics.

Is there any other solution?   thanks in advance.

aptop gives crackling noise when playing video and connected to power

Hi @envylaptop-user,

Welcome to the HP Forums :)

I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

As I understand, your notebook makes a crackling sound while playing videos.

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

When was the last time it was working fine?

Were there any hardware/software changes made on your notebook?

What is the product number and operating system on PC?

Does it make crackling sound only while playing video?

I have a few recommendations:

  • Updating your Notebook computer BIOS

  • Keeping notebook air vents clear and clean

  • Increasing the efficiency of the notebook to reduce heat

  • Using Windows Task Manager to identify corrupt processes

  • Selecting power saves settings to shut off your computer when it is not in use

Keep me posted!

Cheers :)

aptop gives crackling noise when playing video and connected to power

Thanks Flower_Bud for your help. But none of the solutions seems to work for me.     Please see my response below.

  • When was the last time it was working fine?  about 7-8 months ago.
  •  Were there any hardware/software changes made on your notebook? I upgraded to windows 10  but I belive there were no issues after I upgraded. It is possible that the issue may have started after any further updates. I am not sure if static noise is due to a  faulty h/w or software.

  • What is the product number and operating system on PC?  HP ENVY - 15t Laptop Product number: M9U50AV  Serial number: CND5434VXK

  • Does it make crackling sound only while playing video? Yes, here are my observations:

1. I get static/ popping/ buzzing noise from laptop when shutting down, booting, or re-starting

2. I get static/ popping / buzzing noise when playing video or audio file

3. I noticed when I remove the power cord the static/buzzing noise stops for a while. When I re-attach the power cord noise restarts immediately.

4. When the battary is 30-40% left and I play video/audio I get the same noise even if power cord is not attached

5. I ran HP diagnostics for all componenets which passed all tests

6. I get static when I was running HP diagnostics even when power cord was not attached:

7. I have already updated BIOS and realtek drivers

8. I tried Windows troubleshooting but it did not resolve the issue

9. I tested with multiple browsers and audio/video players and found it is not tied to a browser or audio/video player.

  • Updating your Notebook computer BIOS

    • Already updated but it did not resolve the issue
  • Keeping notebook air vents clear and clean

    • Were already clean.
  • Increasing the efficiency of the notebook to reduce heat

       -  I belive over heating is not an issue. I have HP cool sense running all the  time and never got any alerts

  • Using Windows Task Manager to identify corrupt processes

    •  I found no processes
  • Selecting power saves settings to shut off your computer when it is not in use

    • I already have HP recommended power option

I appreciate any further help?

thanks,
