Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.

I read that when using Skype the audio is garbled. Also, Skype is unable to locate the sound card on your HP Pavilion dv6700 laptop. Not worry, I'll do my best to help you.

To provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Please let me know the exact product model no. This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l. Because in the 6v6700 there are other models too.
  • Does the audio works fine using other application or while playing music or movies? If yes then the issue is with Skype.

Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Click Start, type services.msc into the search field, and then select services.msc from the list when it becomes available to open the Programs window.

  • Grant permission to continue, if prompted.

  • Scroll down to and select Windows Audio, right-click to open the drop-down menu, and then click Start.

Figure : Starting the Windows Audio service

  • Right-click Windows Audio, click Properties, and then verify that Startup Type is set to Automatic.

The Windows Audio service is now running. The error message should close.

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. Cheers! 🙂
