the port on my laptop seems not to be standard for what staples has in the store to plug in an external speaker.  i bought a bluetooth and that works but i fear it will drain the battery that is already not at peak.  Can I get an external speaker for this aging laptop?

The combo headphones/microphone connector on the PCs are usually connected so that you can plug in a regular stereo headphone/speaker plug without a problem. That is if your headphones/speakers have a standard 3.5mm stereo plug.

If you already have a working Bluetooth speaker I would just enjoy the wireless freedom. The Bluetooth is not the worst power hog on your computer.

People are using their precious remaining lifetime to try and help, so it is common courtesy to come back and tell what the solution eventually was even if you found it elsewhere. It is for the benefit of everyone.

Thanks for that perspective. It took a long time for the speaker to find the blue tooth on the computer. I was ready to give up. But it works now. Thanks
