Hi,

Try the following.

Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp52001-52500/sp52424.exe

When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.

When complete, restart the notebook and let Windows fully load.  Open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

If you still have no audio, open windows Control Panel, open Administrative Tools and open Services.  Check that the following services are all showing as Status= Started and Start-up Type= Automatic

Audio Service

Multimedia Class Scheduler

Windows Audio

Windows Audio Endpoint Builder

If you need to make a change to any of the above, just right click the service and select Properties, then in the dropdown box next to 'Start-up type',  select Automatic and click Apply to save the change.  Then click the Start button.

Regards,

DP-K

Very sorry to say I had the exact same problem - coming after having trouble with start up, so my patience with hp issues is dropping steadily. :/

Anyway, thank you for your response. I did everything you suggested but got stuck at the final step - right clicked on the taskbar, was given the option to select "speakers" (not "speakers and headphones"), and was unable to select "set default." So I gave the "Services" bit a shot to check the 4 things you mentioned, all of which were fine but the Audio Service - when I told it to start, I was met with the error message "The Audio Service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs."

Help, please??

Maybe this:

control panel, system and security, restore computer to an earlier time.

Follow the instructions to get back to a time before the update.

Good Luck

Thanks man! this is the second time I've had trouble with the audio and i just referred back to your instructions and it worked flawlessly. I now have my sound back again.
