windows update ruined my audio

Envy M6
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

i have the Envy M6 notebook with Beats Audio.  never once had a problem with it, until i did a recent Windows update.  Now there is no trace of Beats audio on my laptop and the audio quality when listening to itunes is garbage.

has anyone else had a similar issue and how do i get Beats back on my laptop?

Hi,

Can you post back with the full Model No. and Product No. of your m6 series notebook - you can usually get this by holding down the fn key and pressing esc, otherwise see Here for a guide on locating this information.

Hi,

Try the following.

Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63001-63500/sp63376.exe

When done, hold down the Windows key and press R

Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter.

In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.

When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63001-63500/sp63377.exe

When the Chipset reinstallation has completed, restart the notebook.

When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again and let windows fully load for a few minutes before checking.

Hi,

Try this..

1.Click Windows Start.
2.Click Control Panel.
3.Click DTS Studio Sound.
4.Select Listening Experience.
5.Uncheck the Audio Enhancements option.
6.Click Save to save the changes.
7.Close Control Panel.

Then restart your computer and watch online videos. This should fix your problem!

Cheers!

Hi,

The Beats gui is provided by the idt software package - I've unpacked the installer linked in my previous post and it does contain the necessary components.  One further option to check is that the Beats sound processing has been enabled - Open windows Control Panel and in the top right, next to View by: select 'Large Icons'.  If the Beats icon shows here, open it and check that it's enabled - if the icon isn't present, try installing the idt package again, then reboot.
