GM, my sons HP 250 G5 ( x9uo7ut ) isnt turning on, it shut down on him over a week ago and no luck restarting. He had a friend check it out at Geek Squad, after their testing they said it should be the internal CMOS battery since they couldnt get it to start.

Can anyone provide info on this and if its something you can replace on your own? Ive found some vids on disassembly but nothing specific to show where the the CMOS battery is or if its accessible.

Thanks.

Hi,

First, I doubt it is the CMOS battery. Here is how you can replace the battery (RTC battery). The battery you need is the CR2032 which you can find in any electronics store (or even supermarket).

On page 63 of service manual you can see the steps to replace the battery.

Now, the PC does not turn on. When you attach the ac adapter does the charging light come on? Is there any sign of livewhen you press the power button, such as blinking leds, noise from fan, hard drive?

You probably have already tried the hard reset, if not give it a try. Here is link to HP support page showing how it is done:

Let me know some more details,

David

GM, the charging light does come on once adapter is plugged in, no other signs,  a reset didnt provide any solution either.

If not CMOS battery any other option to check?

Thx

Well, replaced CMOS battery and nothing.

Was mistaken of charging light coming on also. The laptop is dead, no lights, sounds etc coming from it.......Is there anything else to try or is it dead?

Thx
