HP Recommended
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Greetings,

I have an HP 8470p laptop with Win 10 on a 1TB drive.   It works great!

I wanted to have a backup of the drive in case mine crashed so I used Clonezilla to make a copy of the drive.

When I switched to the cloned Win 10 drive I get the error:   Boot device not found - Hard Disk - (3F0)

Going into the System Diagnostics and checking the disk also fails saying:  SMART Check: Not Available  Short DST: Not Available  Long DST:  Not Available

However if I put the cloned Win 10 drive into a desktop PC it boots just fine.

The drives are both HDD not SSD.

Any thoughts?

UPDATE:

Apparently after you beat your head on the wall, ideas will pop into your head.  <smile>

Since the BIOS was not even recognizing the HDD, I started to think that maybe the laptop needs to have a particular drive(s).   Found one from an older HP laptop I had laying around.  Bios recognized it and did a SMART/Short DST which passed.  Cloned it and it is working.

If anyone can shed some light on this I sure would like to understand it.
