Hi @John2140,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP laptop is showing the "boot device not found" error message, it means that the computer is unable to find a bootable device such as the operating system installed on the hard drive or a bootable USB drive. This error can be caused by several reasons, including.
- A faulty hard drive or SSD
- Loose or disconnected hard drive cable
- Incorrect BIOS settings
- Damaged motherboard
- Corrupt operating system files
To resolve this issue, try the following steps.
- First, check if the hard drive or SSD is properly connected. Open up the laptop's back panel and ensure that the hard drive cable is connected securely.
- Try to reset the BIOS to default settings. Restart the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key until the BIOS menu appears. From there, look for the option to "Load Setup Defaults" or "Reset to Default" and save the changes before exiting.
- Try booting from a bootable USB drive or CD/DVD. If the laptop successfully boots from the external device, it indicates that there is an issue with the internal hard drive.
- If the issue persists, it is possible that the hard drive or SSD has failed and needs to be replaced.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
