Solved!

Administrator Password or power on pw

HP Recommended
Envy x360

I get a black screen with prompt for Administrator or log on pw. The error code is [I 68891909] I have read on older forums that there is a code I can try. Can anyone tell me what that code is or how I can get it? I am stumped!

@Dyathink

That is a Disable Code but we're not permitted to provide Disable Code bypasses anymore.

Passwords can NOT be recovered; instead, they have to be reset.

We are not permitted to assist in resetting passwords due to HP Policy.
--------------------
For Admin password resets, you have to contact your regional HP Customer Support location directly for assistance.
https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true
--------------------
For BIOS or power-on password resets, because the password is encoded onto a chip on the motherboard, replacement of that motherboard is required. HP does not reset the BIOS password on the current motherboard.

If you are not prepared to spend the money to get HP to replace the motherboard, you would have to take the PC to a local repair facility to see if they can do it for you -- but we can not assist in that in any way.

Fortunately I did not receive your reply while still working on the problem. I located a website that generates bypass codes and it worked like a charm. And I am far from a computer whiz. I was just desperate. It's truly pathetic that I would be required to replace a motherboard or engage with HP Support to replace what appears to be a password that cannot be reset. And in all that time, with all that aggravation I would have not been able to work or even recover my files. I thank you for your reply but no, it was not helpful in the slightest. Why would you even bother to give me such devastating news fully knowing there was a solution out there that was easy-peasy? Thanks for nada.

The reply I provided was in strict accordance with HP policy -- which we are obligated to confirm to.

If you found a workaround, then good for you -- but as I said, we are not allowed to assist you in that.
