HP Pavilion Notebook - 17-g121nd (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Kindly note this booting issue is RANDOM ; After 8 - 13 days booting normally and !FAST! I am faced with following issue:

HP logo appears  a# sometimes spinnning circle  or b# sometimes only black screen after HP logo .

My solution is : powerswitch off/on and then booting goes normally. When I have done this my system shows the exact time of "rebooting".

What solution? since it does not happen daily. I have my battery removed since day 1 of purchase as do not need it.

Hard reset is in my view NOT the solution and I neither do understand how to proceed with this.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
  • Did you make any changes to the settings of your PC prior to the issue?

While you respond to that, let's try these steps:

Hard Reset: Follow the steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8. (Refer to the removable and sealed battery)
BIOS default:(do not skip any troubleshooting steps even if you feel steps are repeating)

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and    Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked to Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Dear Echo_L.

My Apologies for some delay in feedback as I was abroad without this Laptop!

The issue has started "suddenly": no recent window or software updates nor any changes to settings.

Only I did the switchbutton to " save  docs/pics to onedrive" ;  Thereafter,  I noticed that my C:drive space decreased by 16 GB.

I have not done the hard reset YET as todate the pc is booting normally, showing HP icon and booting time is ard 45 sec. or less!

You mention hard reset and also BIOS default:  Latter is referring to your pnt 1 to 6?

Do I  firstly have to do hard reset and then the Bios procedure 1/6?

Anyway, I am a bit at a loss at the moment as Windows is acting "normally" since my return and nothing happened from my end. Pls advise, Cheerio, Mildred

Hi Echo_Lake,

Pls notice you did NOT reply to my questions:

You mention "hard reset"  : Do I have to try this firstly?

Beneath you mention BIOS default specifying pnt 1 to 6: Can I do that separately?

Issue is still persisting so I have to do something - Kindly read my previous post  once more as issue is not solved as yet

Appreciate explanation.
