Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I tried to update my BIOS but I had first to enter the password for the BIOS.

However, I haven't that password anymore.

Is there a way to remove/change/reset the BIOS Password?

Any help would really be appreciated!

Hi,

You'll need to Contact HP Business support - they should be able to send you a customised SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.

You can contact HP Business Support in your country via

http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html

or

https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp

Just to note, don't try removing the rtc battery.  It won't remove the password, but it will reset the clock - as smc files are time coded, a large disparity between the system clock and the time encoded in the smc will cause it to fail.

Hi,

I have the same problem as the original poster. I received today the SMC.bin file form the customer service. I managed to enter at least to the BIOS with the file, but when I try to "Change BIOS Administrator Password" or "Restore Security Setting to Factory Defaults" both of them requests the original BIOS password what I obviously does not have.  What am I doing wrong? I would really appreciate any suggestion what to try, because this situation really makes me upset.

Below some screenshots about what I see:
