I have both an Elite x2 1012 G1 and G2. Both were purchased as refurbished laptops. Both require BIOS updates but have a password. i contacted the seller -(private resellers through BestBuy) and they have no idea.
Is there a way around this?
Thanks

Is the problem the windows username / password or is the BIOS asking for a password to make the laptop start up?
If the problem is windows then just do a clean install of windows, wiping out the disk drive.

Thanks for responding.
It is the BIOS that is locked. I've been using both laptops for a few years now just fine. HP assistant has been telling me that BIOS needs updating but I have never been able to so I left it. But now I am having a couple of issues with the newer one that others have suggested the BIOS needs updating. When I press esc during boot, the BIOS asks for a password 3x then locks the computer until I restart.

Have bestbuy clear the password or return them for a refund.
Possibly an HP Agent can help if you explain that the BIOS password is set to prohibit BIOS changes, not to protect the contents of the disk drive or block booting the OS.
Unfortunately, for problem with BIOS passwords you will need to contact an HP agent.
