Hi all,

I'm trying to install Manjaro on my Laptop which is currently running Kubuntu 18.04 LTS. After setting up a bootable flash with dd and trying to boot into the Manjaro iso, the screen is turning black and prompting 'GRUB'. Nothing else is happening after. I tried different flash drives and tested the iso image on another laptop (FreeBSD) which would run the image as expected. So there's definitely something wrong with my laptop. Since Manjaro needs UEFI and secure boot turned off, I think UEFI and or the bootloader are giving me trouble...

I checked if the sys/firmware/efi directory exists, and since it didn't I'm guessing I simply don't have UEFI.

So I went to the HP 'Software and Driver Downloads' page and checked for Updates. According to the diagnostics my BIOS is the newest available version (F1.B). There are however, two other files that might be interesting:

1. 'HP BIOS Update UEFI' in the 'BIOS-Tools' Folder and

2. 'HP System Diagnostics UEFI' in the Diagnostics Folder

So I went ahead and tried to update my BIOS but all my tries were unsuccessful. I followed the help here https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00007682 without avail. Trying to create a recovery flash on a Windows (non HP) computer would always fail due to insydeflash problems.

I also tried the method from this site [edit]

But the problem is that I simply cannot access the BIOS update function (I also tried to set an admin password as suggested in the link).

I don't know what else I could do.. I hope that someone can help me, please ?!
