The current BIOS for this laptop is F.43 Rev A and it will not install.  The option to install on this laptop is greyed out when you click on it in Windows 10, and making a boot disc to update also fails.
My current version on my laptop is F.04 so I’m guessing there is an improvement or two available with any of the updates.  I have spent several hours trying to find F.42 to see if that worked but I cannot locate it.  If anyone still has it I’d love to get the older version to at least get closer.

Thank you for posting back.

I understand that you're unable to update the BIOS version via Widows or USB download.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

  • Firstly, remove the hard drive from the computer.
  • Once the hard drive is removed turn on the computer without the hard drive- While booting as the computer doesn’t detect a hard drive so it’ll automatically roll back to the previous bios.
  • Put the HDD back in and turn it ON. It might give an error about the improper shutdown. Just click continue and it should boot to windows.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hello,

The issue isn't that my BIOS is corrupt, it is that I cannot update it to the current version because it is not a working update.

When you try to install it, it fails.  Whether through Windows or by booting from a USB drive.

The suggestions that have been posted to other people with this issue suggest to use a previous update, but there is no other update available from HP.  No previous versions are available for download under any page that I can find.  Only the faulty f.43 version of the BIOS, which will not work.

  Thanks,

    James

That worked for updating the BIOS.  Thank you.

The assistant isn't fixing the drivers that aren't present for the laptop with Windows, but I can download those individually.

  Thank you very much!
