HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab254sa (ENERGY STAR)

I am currently experiencing issues with the battery of my laptop

I left it to charge overnight and when I tried to turn it on nothing happened- the LED on the power button didn't turn on and no sound came from the laptop. The laptop will boot and run normally when the power supply is connected, and when I unplug the power supply when it's on the laptop continues to stay on. While I have thet power supply connected and I hover over the battery icon, it says 'No battery is detected', with the power supply unplugged it says 'Unknown remaining'. I tried changing the battery (I have replaced the battery since the original one would only hold charge for a few minutes) and the exact same issue occured. I have tried cleaning the battery contacts with contact cleaner but this had no effect.
I've also tried using the HP support assistant but it found no issues with my device or battery, and found no updates for my device. I hope I've given enough information, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: I unplugged the laptop once powered on and continued to use it with the battery installed that I normally used- after about 10/20 minutes the laptop suddenly turned off (unlike how it would if the battery ran out, the screen and power LED immediately turned off without warning), and now as soon as I unplug the power cord the laptop immediately shuts off. I'm not sure what more to try as the HP support assistant isn't being any help and anything I try online doesn't help either.
